GIVING
In the world of private, independent schools, the term “development”
connotes an extremely important activity. Along with the overall
educational program, the quality of the faculty, the strength and tone
of the student body, and the relevancy of a school’s mission,
Development stands as one of the pillars on which a healthy independent
school rests. And why? Because in the educational world, Development
is the standard word for fundraising of all types, fundraising that’s so
very necessary for both the short-term and long-term vitality of just
about any private, independent school.
The Development Office at Miller School is responsible for many types
of fund-raising activities. The Annual Fund Drive, Capital Gifts,
Planned Giving (that is, gifts to the School via such written devices as
wills and trusts), and Major Gift Giving are some of the primary areas
of focus for any successful Development Office, including Miller’s. It
is the job of our Development Office to tell the story of Miller School
and to raise the funds necessary to keep the School financially healthy
in the short-term while also funding those initiatives that have been
prioritized by our Board of Trustees as necessary in the long term.
