Rob Wyllie grew up between Louisiana and the New York City area before coming to the University of Virginia. Since then he has been unwilling to leave central Virginia, which he describes as the golden mean between his old hometowns. He stayed at UVA for graduate work, where he specialized in the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard. His studies in philosophy have also brought him back full circle to his favorite Louisiana writers, Walker Percy and John Kennedy Toole.

In leisure time not given over to books, Rob enjoys playing chess, fly-fishing, and watching baseball. He also enjoys swimming, particularly when he is able to reunite with his old teammates on the UVA water polo team.
