John joined the Miller School of Albemarle in August 2006 after having traveled around the world for two years with his wife Cara on their honeymoon. Before their extensive traveling, John taught at the Jemicy School in Towson, Maryland, for four years, where he also coached soccer, lacrosse, and track. John is also a professional dance instructor and worked four years for a dance studio in Towson teaching a range of ballroom dances including tango and salsa. Before he changed career paths into education, John was a marine engineer and sailed with several companies including American Hawaii Cruises and Tycom. John graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1996 with a BS in Marine Engineering Systems and Design.
John and his wife, Cara, are passionate travelers. They have traveled to over 40 countries together on six continents. They have produced several short documentaries for Lonely Planet guide books and have published a coffee table book about travel in East Africa. John and Cara studied under several tango masters in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and have taught tango at the University of Virginia for the Charlottesville Tango Society as well as a variety of dance classes at the Miller School of Albemarle.
John and Cara have two daughters, Abigail Sinclair Macdonald and Olivia Anne Macdonald. |
