In her 45 years at the Miller School of Albemarle, Jessie Haden has worn many hats, teaching first the 5th and 6th graders and then being promoted to her favorite, teaching U.S. Government first period. The remainder of the day was spent as Director of Admissions and then later as Dean of Students. Today, while working part time, Jessie coordinates the Service Program.
A native of Albemarle County, Jessie is a graduate of Lane High School and Mary Baldwin College. She has a master's degree in Supervision from the University of Virginia.
Jessie grew up on a working farm where she learned to love the land, the feel of the soil in her hand, and watching things grow. She raised her three children on a farm and has attempted to teach them many of the lessons she learned from her parents.
In her tenure at MSA, the world has greatly changed and all changes in the world affect the students with whom we work. We must change with them or we lose our ability to be affective in the classroom. But, hopefully, we will never change in our instruction of and example setting of Honor, Respect, Disicipline, love of community and service to others.
