Elizabeth joined the Miller School of Albemarle as a French teacher in 2003. Prior to her arrival at MSA she taught Mathematics at an independent school in Charlottesville. In her time at MSA she has enjoyed working with students in the French and Math classrooms. Additionally she has enjoyed the opportunity to serve as the Foreign Language Department Chair and Academic & Program Coordinator prior to accepting the post of Director of Academics. As the Director she has had the privilege of working more closely with her talented colleagues in all aspects of the academic program.
Elizabeth was born in Alabama and has spent much of her life on a horse farm in Albemarle County, attending St. Anne's-Belfield for part of that time and later earning her graduate degree from the Curry School at the University of Virginia. She received her B.A. in French from Sweet Briar College with a minor in Chemistry. Her junior year was spent along the banks of the Seine in Paris, where she lived with a host family and enjoyed taking classes at La Sorbonne.
Elizabeth has been an active equestrian both in the U.S. and in France and is familiar with several hunt clubs in the area. This background led her to introduce a new option to our Service program, Horses as Healers, which is a local non-profit therapeutic riding organization. Later she instituted an equestrian program, further expanding athletic options for students. Prior to starting the equestrian program Elizabeth coached the boys and girls varsity soccer teams drawing on her experience playing as a captain of the Sweet Briar varsity team and as a participant in a variety of soccer programs in the U.S., France, and Quebec.
Elizabeth enjoys living on campus with her husband Michael, a web developer and systems administrator, along with their two daughters. They enjoy horseback riding, UVA sporting events, and kicking the ball around on the soccer fields. |
